We had another amazing weekend! I keep repeating to Drew: we are so lucky. Because, boy are we.

Saturday morning we got up early and ate donuts in bed while watching cartoons. HUGE indulgence. The kids acted like it was Christmas. After that, we made our usual summer Saturday stop: the farmers market! Oh, man. The veggies are starting to pour in and the gorgeous basket Betsy got me last year is really coming in handy!

we’re allowed to fill our basket to the brim with anything we want for $20! I PACKED it in!

Look at all of it! Cherries, strawberries, corn, tomatoes, peppers, jalapenos, onions, garlic, bok choy, golden beets, snap peas, broccoli, zucchini, cucumber, yellow squash, cauliflower, asparagus, cilantro, leeks, potatoes…

The produce nearly made me giddy. Then we went on the obligatory carriage ride and hung out by the creek for awhile. After we got home and unloaded, we decided to take another quick day trip! This time we went to Wellington Lake. We’ve been scoping out the perfect camping spot for years. My requirement: a body of water to swim in. Drew’s requirement: heavily wooded and grand views. WE HAVE FINALLY FOUND OUR PLACE!!! And better yet- it’s only an hour drive!

photo 3 (2)The water is crystal clear and you can camp right on the lake, but it is so densely forested that you smell the pine as you stand at the waters edge. And it’s so secluded literally 20 minutes down a winding dirt road after you get into Bailey. We’re literally ECSTATIC- it’s been a long time in the making! So we will be camping there this summer for sure!

That night we went to Drew’s friends house for a party. Griffin ran around like a crazy person with the other kids and had a BLAST. We had lots of fun hanging out with friends too- and my quinoa salad was a hit!

And then Sunday was Father’s Day! I hung out with the kids so that Drew could sleep in. Then I made him his beloved Big Breakfast. He wanted to swim, so we took the kids to the pool, which they LOVED this time and did not want to leave! After lunch all three of them took SUPER long naps, which was good because it gave me time to make Drew’s Father’s Day cake:

upon seeing it, Griffin kept exclaiming “THANK YOU for Father’s Day, mommy!” HA!

Drew requested tacos with “real beef” for dinner. Apparently he has grown tired of my soy crumbles. (I looooove soy crumbles). And then we all went outside and played!

It was an awesome weekend. Drew deserves it. He’s an awesome dad.
